What Happens After the Last PSLE Paper? The 2026 Post-PSLE Timeline

The last PSLE 2026 written paper was on 30 September. Next come the marking days (12 to 14 October), results (tentatively 24 to 25 November), about a week to choose secondary schools, posting results in the second half of December, and Secondary 1 in January. That is roughly three months, and it is worth knowing its shape before you plan it.

For most families, the final PSLE paper feels like the finish line. In practice it begins a long, quieter stretch, often the longest break in a child's school life so far. Knowing what happens when makes it much easier to plan well, rather than drifting through it or filling it anxiously.

What are the key post-PSLE dates for 2026?

What happens on results day?

Results are collected at the student's primary school. Students who were offered a place through Direct School Admission (DSA-Sec) and met the conditions will have that place confirmed with their results. Everyone else takes part in the Secondary 1 posting exercise.

How does the Secondary 1 posting exercise work?

On results day, parents log in to MOE's S1 Portal with Singpass and rank up to six secondary schools. Students are then considered in order of their PSLE score, with better scores considered first for the schools they chose. If two students with the same score are competing for a school's last place, MOE applies tie-breakers in this order: citizenship, then the order in which the school was ranked, then a computerised ballot.

The choosing window is short, about a week. Families who have already visited open houses and shortlisted schools usually find it far less stressful than those starting from scratch.

What about the weeks in between?

October and early November are the calmest part of the whole period. This is a good time for genuine rest, and also a sensible time to look at secondary schools, while nothing is urgent.

After posting results in December, there are still a few weeks before Secondary 1 starts. This is where most of the open time sits, and where families have the most room to decide how to use it.

Should my child keep up with English over the break?

A little, and in a way that does not feel like revision. Children who stop reading entirely for three months often need a few weeks to settle back into longer texts. Light, enjoyable reading, plus conversations where they explain and defend their opinions, keeps their English ticking over without taking away the rest they have earned. Secondary 1 English asks more of comprehension and writing than PSLE did, so arriving with the reading habit intact helps.

Have a younger child moving up in 2027?

If you also have a younger child, our Islandwide Discovery Day on Saturday 7 November is a relaxed way to plan their next step for 2027. You can speak with an English Specialist, explore the right programme and, where available, experience an LCentral class. Find your nearest centre.
